At Through the Woods Well-Being Service CIC, we want you to know that you are not alone. We are here for you, ready to listen, support, and walk alongside you on your path to healing.


Mental health is about feeling balanced, resilient, and connected in all areas of life. It is about managing stress, nurturing self-compassion and learning how to take those difficult steps forward after losing a loved one.


Dealing with mental health can be tough, but when you are living with chronic pain and illness, or caring for someone else, it can be similar to experiencing grief. You know can’t fix it, you can find ways to cope and adapt to a new way of life. We’ve been there! We know how overwhelming it can be, and that’s why our counselling service offers support where it is overlooked.

Founder, Director and Qualified Counsellor

As a caring and dedicated counsellor, I am here to support you through life’s difficult moments. My experience and expertise has helped many clients to cope with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma and relationship difficulties in a more positive way. I’ve had the privilege of working with ADHD and neurodivergent client’s, I recognise the unique way in which each person views and experiences the world.

I understand what it is like to live with chronic pain and feel misunderstood, having personally experienced its challenges. This experience gives me deep empathy and an insight into what others might be going through emotionally. I genuinely believe in creating a heartfelt connection built on trust and understanding, in a confidential and safe space where you can be yourself without judgement.

Together, we will gently explore what might be holding you back. I will support you to gain a deeper understanding of yourself to find clarity and discover your way forward. My approach is flexible, personalised and designed to meet your needs. My passion is to support you to build your confidence and self-esteem, guiding you to a hopeful outlook filled with peace and empowerment.

Director and Qualified Counsellor

I am a trained person-centred counsellor, my lived experience with chronic pain has ignited a passion for supporting others managing chronic pain. Throughout my counselling experience, I have been fortunate to help clients through a wide range of challenges, including trauma, emotional struggles and loss. Sometimes traumatic life experiences can leave you feeling stuck, as if you are constantly going in circles, unable to move forward. I know that beginning a counselling journey can feel overwhelming and daunting.

My goal is to support your healing by creating a trusting relationship. I want to offer you a safe and compassionate space where you can be yourself and free from judgement. Throughout your journey, I will be there to support and guide you, helping you find a way forward with understanding, growth and hope.

How our counselling process works

Initial Consultation

No referral is necessary. We provide a free telephone consultation to discuss your concerns and goals, and to determine if counselling is the right fit for you.

Expectations

We will explore your expectations and discuss what is needed to achieve the best possible outcomes from your therapy.

Sessions

Typically, sessions range from 6 to 12 weekly meetings. Many clients start to notice improvements within this time frame. For more complex issues, sessions may be extended beyond 12 weeks. Each session is adapted to meet your needs. Your counsellor may also suggest helpful strategies to support your progress.

Counselling Room

Our counselling room is more than just a physical space. It’s a sanctuary for self-reflection, growth, and healing.

It’s a place where we hope you can feel comfortable sharing your experiences, exploring your emotions, and working through your challenges with our compassionate counsellors.

Whether you’re seeking emotional support for chronic pain or a specific issue or simply looking to improve your overall mental health and well-being, our counselling room provides a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment to help you achieve your goals.

The room is designed to be a warm and inviting space with comfortable seating that helps you feel at ease.

Wellbeing

Our wellbeing group is based at Kepier Hall, Church Street, Houghton, DH4 4DN and is facilitated by our counsellor, Louise.

Every Tuesday 6.30pm- 8.30pm.

What to expect

A safe space without judgement, where you get to meet others, find genuine connections within the community.

Are you feeling lonely? Sometimes when you feel stuck it can be hard to break that cycle or maybe you feel anxious about being around people you don’t know. We know it can be hard to take your first step to meet new people. There is no pressure to talk, your presence is important.

There will be tea, coffee and a choice of biscuits!
